FISH Philosophy

FISH Philosophy

Welcome to our FISH Philosophy page! At Dunedoo Central School, we believe that building a safe, positive, and inclusive environment is essential for effective learning and personal development. Our philosophy is a whole-school approach designed to foster and support positive behaviours, creating a nurturing and motivating space for all our students.

What is the FISH Philosophy?

The FISH Philosophy is an evidence-based framework that promotes proactive strategies for teaching and reinforcing positive behaviours. At Dunedoo Central School, our staff work together to implement consistent expectations and use positive reinforcement to help students understand and uphold these standards. The aim of FISH is to create a positive school climate that encourages academic, social, and emotional growth.

How FISH works at Dunedoo Central School

Our FISH framework includes the following key elements:

  • Clear Expectations
Our FISH committee has set clear expectations that align with our values:

Choose Your Attitude; Play; Make Their Day; and Be There.

These expectations are communicated to students, teachers and families to ensure a shared understanding of what positive behaviour looks like.

  • Explicit Teaching
Positive behaviours are taught directly and modelled throughout the school. By explicitly teaching these behaviours, we give students the tools they need to make good choices and develop positive habits.

  • Positive Reinforcement
At Dunedoo Central School, we celebrate positive behaviours. Our staff use rewards, praise and recognition to encourage students who demonstrate positive behaviour. This approach reinforces our school values and motivates students to do their best.
  • Continuous Support and Development
FISH is a flexible framework that allows us to adapt to our students' needs.  Regular assessment and reflection enable us to refine our approach and ensure we continue to support students effectively.
