Another Great DCS Swimming Carnival!
A fantastic day was had by all at our swimming carnival held on 15 February 2013. As always students made a great effort to come decked out in house colours, Evans in yellow, Bass in blue and Sturt in green.
The day kicked off with the team chant competition, which is always fiercely contested.
This year we had some superb swims that sank a few long standing records. The race of the day had to be the Girls 10 Years and Under 33m backstroke, when Lexi Gallagher and Annie Christensen broke the record in a dead heat with a time of 30:72 seconds. Not to be outdone, Harry Taylor broke two records in the Boys 13 Years and Under 133 metre Individual Medley with a time of 2:30:47 and the Boys 11 Years 33 metre butterfly with a time of 34:40. Ben Gallagher broke the record in the Boys 10 Years and Under 33 metre butterfly with a time of 37:40. Gabbi Johnston broke the record in the Girls 13 Years and Under 133 metre Individual Medley with a time of 2:19:61 and Kate Gallagher also broke a record in the 16 Years 33 metre butterfly with a time of 22:69. A smashing effort by these great swimmers.
There were some other unsung heroes of the day - students with no special talent for swimming - who did themselves and their house proud by entering many events and scoring points for their house. Well done to you all!
Year 12 absolutely out did themselves in a well rehearsed display of talent on the blocks and in the pool.
The carnival concluded with a fun teams event where the staff demonstrated their own natural skills and talents and would definitely have won had the Year 12 Team and the Parent Team not been it.
Congratulations to all the winners - on a day like this there just aren't any losers - and well done to the hard working committee and thanks to all the parents, grandparents and supporters who came along and made the day a great success.
The final results: Bass 574 points, Sturt 519 points, Evans 507 points.
